From the first churches that sprung up after the death and resurrection of Christ, followers of Jesus have been sharing their resources to empower the work of Christ throughout the world. In the time of Moses, God instructed the people to give a tenth of their income to the ministry of the temple. When Jesus came into this world, he celebrated not the size of a gift, but the size of the sacrifice. During the first decades of the church, the Apostle Paul continued the teaching of Christ, encouraging people to share with those who have need.
